There is nothing quite like getting out into the field and working with the ground. Over the years, we have developed a wide range of field techniques, making use of the latest technology, as well as tried and tested tools. We have faced all manner of tricky briefs and working conditions in our time, and we use that experience to find the right solution for the situation.
Those solutions draw on a wide range of techniques and technologies but typically include:
- Digging trial pits by hand to expose soil and foundations at a shallow depth
- Using lightweight machinery such as hand augers and dynamic samplers in areas of restricted access, or where larger drilling equipment is impractical
- Percussive drilling rigs for testing most UK sedimentary soils
- Special percussive rigs for restricted access and low headroom situations
- Diesel, air or electric rigs, depending on the available power supply and working environment
- Rotary rigs for rock drilling using water, air, mist or mud flushes, depending on the ground conditions
- An array of in situ methods to suit the site and proposals: including the California Bearing Ratio for pavement design, plate bearing tests to assess settlement and the Static Cone Penetrometer which provides a wealth of data using a variety of testing cones
